Kim M. Braud is the founder, editor, and publisher of Evans Cutchmore Press, an independent newsroom dedicated to public policy, economic development, government accountability, and investigative reporting. Her work examines public institutions, business, infrastructure, and the decisions that shape communities, with a particular focus on New Orleans and the Gulf South.
Drawing on more than three decades of experience in financial services, corporate leadership, marketing, and entrepreneurship, Braud brings a systems-based perspective to journalism. Her reporting is rooted in public records, legislative proceedings, contracts, budgets, and historical research, providing readers with context that extends beyond headlines.
In addition to leading Evans Cutchmore Press, Braud is the founder of The Couvent Collective, an organization focused on expanding economic opportunity for entrepreneurs through education, strategic guidance, and access to business resources. The Collective's portfolio includes ventures in financial services, publishing, and logistics, reflecting her longstanding commitment to building organizations that create lasting economic impact.
Braud is also a six-time published author whose work explores entrepreneurship, financial literacy, leadership, and historical preservation. Her publishing experience informs Evans Cutchmore Press's mission to produce thoughtful, well-researched reporting that serves the public interest.
As an entrepreneur, Braud founded Fleurty Wick®, which grew into one of the nation's largest African American woman-founded candle manufacturing companies. She has since coached more than 680 women in launching and scaling fragrance-based businesses, helping entrepreneurs build sustainable companies through disciplined operations, pricing strategies, manufacturing systems, and brand development.
Prior to entrepreneurship, Braud spent years with Nationwide Insurance, where she advanced to the role of Affinity Sales Management Consultant. During her tenure, she helped generate more than $300 million in revenue for the Southern States Regional Operation while leading hundreds of business development initiatives, marketing campaigns, and strategic partnerships.
Her commitment to public accountability extends beyond journalism. In 2022, Braud made a $1.9 million offer to preserve Holy Redeemer School in New Orleans, reflecting her dedication to protecting historic institutions and advocating for community preservation.
Braud's civic leadership includes service with the American Red Cross, SafeKids Georgia, Habitat for Humanity, United Way of Greater Atlanta, Women in Trucking, NAIFA, and numerous nonprofit organizations focused on mentorship, leadership, and economic empowerment.
She is currently producing The Promise of Protection, a feature documentary examining the long-term impact of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on New Orleans communities through the lens of her family's multigenerational experience.
Braud is an FAA Part 107 Certified Remote Pilot, a licensed life insurance professional, and a Certified SCORE Mentor. Her work has been recognized by organizations including the American Red Cross, Goldman Sachs 10,000 Women, the Nasdaq Entrepreneurial Center, NAWBO, and numerous civic and business organizations.
A native of New Orleans, Braud believes independent journalism plays a vital role in strengthening civic engagement, increasing government transparency, and preserving the historical record for future generations.
