NEW ORLEANS - The City of New Orleans’ Municipal Complex Advisory Committee will meet Tuesday, September 15, to examine the possibility of building new municipal facilities, with Duncan Plaza specifically identified for discussion as a potential site.
The meeting is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the Union Passenger Terminal, 1001 Loyola Avenue, in the second-floor conference room.
According to the meeting agenda released September 10, the committee will review and discuss the “Build New Option,” including a presentation from Jerry Harris, director of the City of New Orleans Capital Projects Administration, on the development of new city facilities.
A significant portion of the meeting will focus on Duncan Plaza, the public space located across from New Orleans City Hall in the city’s Central Business District.
Trepwise Consultants is scheduled to present information on the history and context of Duncan Plaza. The committee will then hear a presentation on due diligence generally and specifically as it relates to Duncan Plaza.
That presentation is expected to include Harris; Annie McBride, CEO of the New Orleans Building Corporation; and Jacob Roland, director of operations for the New Orleans Building Corporation. Committee members will have an opportunity for questions and discussion following the presentations.
The committee is also scheduled to consider criteria that could be used in evaluating options for the future municipal complex and approve minutes from its September 1 meeting.
The September 15 discussion comes as New Orleans continues examining the long-term future of its municipal facilities and where city government operations should be located.
The city has also been gathering public input on the future of City Hall and municipal services through community discussions, including the possibility of maintaining centralized government operations while considering how residents in other parts of New Orleans access city services.
Public Comment
The September 15 Municipal Complex Advisory Committee meeting is open to the public.
Members of the public will have an opportunity to address the committee on matters related to items on the meeting agenda. Each speaker will be limited to two minutes.
Written comments may also be submitted to MCAC@nola.gov no later than 24 hours before the meeting. Written comments will become part of the meeting record and may be read aloud at the discretion of the committee chair or presiding officer.
